hi Everyone
Been in hospital for 16 days with liver failure after collasping at home i was taken by ambulance to hospital.

We were due to go on holiday the following morning so i was left in hospital!!

Found out it was due to RA drugs, probably the leflonomide which i started a few weeks earlier. ALT went up to 265 so it was quite painful and i had also sickness and nausea most of the time. I had a steroid jab just before i left hospital so i'm having to manage on that and pain killers only for at least a month until ALT is back to normal (still at 171) at the moment.

Hi Shirley

So sorry to hear that you have been so unwell and missed your holiday to boot. I suppose the only good thing to come out of it was that you were taken ill before setting off on your holiday where it might have been more difficult to obtain the necessary treatment.

Thank goodness the physicians acted quickly and were able to establish the reason for the liver failure. That's one road you won't be travelling down again. Hope the RA isn't too painful and the liver function returns to normal very quickly. Guess it will be a reassessment of drugs once things settle down. Fingers crossed you are soon started on something suitable for you.

Take care

Lyn x

Shirley, so sorry to hear that. Your holiday cancelled too. What an awful time for you and your family. I hope the meds can be sorted soon, and that you can cope with the steroid jab and pain killers until then, lots of love and hugs x x xSmile

So very sorry to hear this, Shirley, and what a shame you missed your holiday. I had to stop leflunomide after liver problems too.

Hope you feel better soon,

What a shock for you! Do I understand that some of the family went without you? Leflonomide is the next one the RA Nurse wants to add into my existing triple therapy. Hmmmmm! I hope the Steroid Jab is doing the business for you.

Wow Shirley, how scary. Glad you got to the hospital before your hols though. I hope the steroid is working and you can get some advice on longer term treatment for the RA.

Dear Shirley, I am so sorry to hear that you had to miss your holiday.
Sending you wishes for a speedy return to normal Liver function.
(I had to have a scan done of my Liver last week, because enzymes slightly elevated,
but it looked healthy - so probably the Plaquenil I take for R.A.
Best wishes to you,
Fiona

Hi Everyone

Thank-you for all the replies. This forum really makes you feel understood and it's so nice how everyone cares about everyone else. We are all in this RA thing together so it's nice.

Most of my family did go on holiday and leave me in hospital which made me feel very sad and added to the pain. They hoped i might join them after a few days but at the time they went the docs didn't know what was wrong with me so i felt a bit dumped!! Fortunately my oldest daughter was around and looked after me and i had some good friends drop in at visiting time.

I have to go back to see the liver consultant in about a months time so i'm staying put at the moment.

Love Shirley xx
